Bonnie Hinson Blankenship was born Feb. 1, 1928 in Amarillo, TX, to Lee F. Hinson and Marie Ewing Hinson. During her teens she was baptized at the West Amarillo Church of Christ. Bonnie graduated from Amarillo High School in 1946 and from Amarillo College in 1948. She took a three-year course at Northwest Texas School of Nursing, graduating as valedictorian of her class. Bonnie was married to Asa Blankenship, Jr., in 1947. Their daughter Sue was born in 1957. The family lived in Austin, Abilene, Amarillo, Galveston, and finally in Houston from 1968. Bonnie worked as a surgical registered nurse from 1948 to 1952 and from then on as a homemaker.
Bonnie was a loving wife to Asa and very devoted to their daughter Sue. Asa and Bonnie had an exceptional marriage. They enjoyed some wonderful trips together. Bonnie loved gardening and also hosting visitors in their home. She greatly loved Jesus. Bonnie and Asa were active church members all of their lives. In recent years they were members of the Little York Church of Christ in Houston. Bonnie passed on to be with Christ on April 11, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents. Bonnie is survived by her husband Asa of Houston, her daughter Sue Green and husband Bob of Hilo, Hawaii, granddaughter Melissa Green and great-granddaughters Aydyn and Ashlynn Pearson of Houston, and Bonnie’s sister Wanda Ming of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma .
