departed this life into the next on October 2, 2018 at the age of 68.
Beverly was preceded in death by her father, William A Bohannon, her mother, Millicent
Virginia Bundy Bohannon and her niece Deanna Lynne Bohannon. Beverly is
survived by her brother, Reverend William Lynn Bohannon and wife Teresa, her
brother T.J. Bohannon and wife Debbie, as well as two Nephews, two Nieces,
three Great Nephews and one Great Niece.
Beverly became a caregiver early in life with a passion for helping others. Her
passion for others was evidenced by her decision to pursue a career in nursing.
She earned a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Dominican College in
1973 in Houston, Texas. After graduation, she worked in an orthopedic
surgeon’s office and thereafter worked in a variety of nursing jobs through
1990. In 1990, Beverly began working for Baylor University Medical Center
and became one of the first medical record abstractors for the CDC’s Pediatric Spectrum of HIV Disease Project (PSD). Beverly helped bridge the gap between clinical pediatrics and data management with her
computer expertise in data management software and years of clinical
experience. Beverly earned a Masters in Science and Epidemiology at the
University of Texas School of Public Health in 1999. In 2002, Beverly was
recruited to work at the CDC as the national Project Coordinator for the
PSD project. By July 2005, Beverly helped write the protocol and get the
Institutional Review Board approval for the LEGACY study (Longitudinal
Epidemiologic Study to Gain Insight into HIV/AIDS in Children and Youth).
She served as the LEGACY national Project Coordinator. Beverly
continued working with the LEGACY study and coauthored several
publications for both PSD and LEGACY. Beverly was well respected and
appreciated for her professionalism, attention to detail, and passion for the
work of perinatal and pediatric HIV. She enjoyed the opportunity to work
with similarly passionate co-investigators from across the country. She
retired from CDC in 2014.
Beverly was not only a passionate caregiver at work, but at home as well. She
became the primary caregiver for her mother and they shared a home until Milly
passed away in April.
Beverly’s hobbies included being an avid researcher of her family genealogy,
enjoying Southern Gospel Music, scrapbooking, and crafting cards. It was a treat
to receive a greeting card from Beverly, as you knew she put a lot of time,
effort, and thought into creating a card that was sent from the heart!
Beverly will be greatly missed by a host of family and friends who will remember
her kind heart and passion for helping others.
