Betty J. Koerth of Missouri City, Texas passed away peacefully on Thursday morning after a short but valiant battle with cancer. Born September 4, 1934 in Clarborne Parrish, Louisiana. Betty was the youngest of Joseph and Carrie Avery’s nine children. She graduated from Harris High School in 1952 then shortly moved to Texas. She always said although I was not born in Texas, I got here as fast as I could and will never leave.
On July 18, 1958 she married Allan Koerth in Pasadena, Texas. They were united in marriage for over 57 years. They were blessed with four children; Kenneth Allan, David Edward, Charles Benjamin and Melinda Carol and eight grandchildren; Jordan Nicole, Katie Rene, Zachary Charles, Austin Edward, Joshua Ryan, Garret Allan, Christie Rose, and Matthew James. Family and food was her passion. She loved cooking for her family and would spend countless days planning the meals for each of the family celebrations.
After the kids started elementary school, she went to work for the US Postal Service, first as a mail carrier then as a mail clerk for over 30 years. Upon her retirement from the US Postal Service, she worked for her dear friend, Ed Sziy, at Ed’s Pharmacy in the postal contract station.
Betty was also an avid baker and gardener. She would often bake cookies, cakes and other deserts for her family and friends. She was so talented that she turned her love of baking into a part-time business baking and decorating birthday and wedding cakes. When not tending to her family or baking, Betty could often be found working in her flower beds. She enjoyed planting flowers of all varieties and picking fruits from her fruit trees.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Allan Koerth and her son, Kenneth Koerth.
We thank the wonderful doctors and nurses, particularly Dr. Earle at Southwest Memorial Herman, and Stephanie with Houston Hospice, for the gracious and loving care they showed her and our family during the past month. We are indebted to them for their professionalism and kindness.
