Just after midnight on New Year’s Day 2021, the sky lit up with fireworks as the angels of heaven waited to escort Arnulfo Cantú into the kingdom and presence of our Lord and Savior. “Fito”, as he was affectionately known, was born in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico on December 4, 1919 to Severo and Celesa Garza Cantú. On February 4, 1950 in Monterrey, Mexico, at the age of 30, married the love of his life, Alicia Elizondo Garza (age 25) where they lived until immigrating to the United States, and settling in Houston, Texas in 1955. Throughout his life, Arnulfo grew up in a large, loving family that built a strong work ethic from a young age. He dedicated his life to providing for his family and the love he had for his extended family had no bound.
Arnulfo will be remembered for his many accomplishments but stands proud as our family’s first Centenarian, to which he was celebrated amongst his beloved family during his 100-year celebration in 2019. Memories of his enthusiasm for a good boxing match, spending time with family, or enjoying a barbecue, will forever live in our hearts. He possessed a genuine smile that could light any room with his presence.
Arnulfo’s light dimmed as he entered eternal glory with Jesus Christ, at 101 years old.
