Mando attended Houston Public Schools until high school, where he attended St. Pius X. After graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force. After completing four years of service, Mando was accepted into the Houston Police Department's Police Academy. He joined the Houston Police Department on December 11, 1989, in academy class #138. During his tenure with HPD, he was assigned to the South Central, Northeast, and Narcotics Divisions, retiring on September 19, 2020.
Mando was greeted at Heaven's Gate by numerous family members and friends. He is survived by his parents, Raul and Yolanda Ordaz. He is also survived by his wife of 22 years, Melinda Gongora Ordaz, his two daughters Ashley Romo and Gabriella Ordaz, his granddaughter Arya Grace Romo, his sister Laura Sanchez (spouse Jesse Sanchez), his brother Larry Ordaz, and his brother Mark Ordaz (spouse Denise Ordaz). He leaves behind nieces (Danielle,Mikaela, Marissa, Veronica, and Valerie) and nephews (Tristan, Gabriel, Robert Ray, Chris, Joshua, and Derek). He leaves behind many brothers and sisters in blue and close childhood friends
A visitation for Armando will be held Tuesday, October 24, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Rosary at 6:30 PM at Pat H. Foley & Company, 1200 West 34th Street, Houston, TX 77018 and the family is inviting everyone to wear their Astros gear in Honor of Armando Ordaz and his love for the Astros. A celebration of life will occur Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at 10:00 AM, 1200 West 34th Street, Houston, TX 77018. A committal service will occur Wednesday, October 25, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Brookside Cemetery, 13401 Eastex Fwy, Houston, TX 77039.
