Monday, the 3rd of November 2014 we lost our beloved mother, Jean Robinson. She was a longtime Houston resident. She was born the 23rd of January 1935, in Fort Worth, Texas to Ollie Estes and Etna Gladys Swint Ellis.
Jean graduated from Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth in 1952 and went on to major in Education at North Texas State College (University of North Texas) in Denton, Texas. She later attended Baylor University. Jean was a member of Broadway Baptist Church while growing up in Fort Worth and joined Second Baptist Church when she moved to Houston with her young family.
Jean loved her family and cherished her many friends. While raising her two daughters, she was always part of their activities at school and church. She was room mom many times and faithfully served in the PTA. After her nest was empty, Jean worked for Union Carbide, the Houston Symphony Society, Instant Video Replay, and The Winning Walk at Second Baptist Church where she devoted 22 years of service.
She was an avid reader, loved to travel, and she loved to have fun. She spent many autumns in the beautiful state of Maine where she charmed her husband’s family with her Texas accent. She loved to attend symphony and chamber music concerts and recitals and was very proud and appreciative of her many talented family members. She was a true Francophile and cherished her trips to Paris and the rest of France with her daughter, Cheryl. She also loved to travel to California to visit her daughter, Pam, spending time outdoors in the beautiful nature of the area. Her fond memories of traveling to Europe to visit her brother, Don, and his family were never forgotten.
Jean also appreciated nature and never tired of traveling to the piney woods of Northeast Texas during the years her children were growing up. She cherished her memories of days spent in the country with family where there was always laughter, music, good home-style cooking, and a myriad of activities with nieces and nephews.
Jean loved her grandson, Will. She could not wait to read to him when he was young and then discuss with him what each was reading as he grew up. They spent many hours discussing current events, politics, and life. They never tired of sharing ideas. She also loved sharing her fondness for ice cream with her grandson as they contemplated the best flavor and creamery.
She always thought of others first and lived by treating all with the same consideration. Her ability to connect with anyone she met was a gift felt by each individual. In addition, many friends and family will miss her thoughtfully selected gifts that were exquisitely wrapped in beautiful paper and hand-tied bows. Her style was unsurpassed.
Our sad faces are suddenly filled with joy as we that all loved Jean remember that she is walking in heaven today reunited with her loved ones that preceded her. And, we know that she is making heaven smile with her quick wit and sweet, precious spirit.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Keith. She is survived by her brother, Don; daughters Pam Henson and Cheryl Henson Bucher and their father, Dwayne Henson; Grandson, William; Keith’s children, Sharon Robinson Laredo, Hal Robinson, Erica Robinson Auberjonois, Keith “Robby” Robinson, and Kimberley Robinson; Keith’s grandchildren, Jennifer, Danielle, Majick, Michel, Kyle, Christopher, Gunner, and Joshua; Nieces, Myrna Cashatt, Karen Fennell, and Sandy Simpson; Nephews, Steven Ellis, Garland Wayne Taylor, Ralph Taylor, Harlton Taylor, and Richard Simpson.
