She was born in Carthage, Missouri, on the 7th of October 1933, to Michael Francis McAllister and Leona Simpson McAllister. Surviving her is her husband of 66 years, Jarrel D. “Jerry” McDaniel; their son, Jerry McDaniel, Jr. and his wife Susan Taylor McDaniel of Houston, and their daughter, Julia Anne Jackson and her husband Jay Jackson of Lufkin; their grandchildren, Matthew Halvorson of College Station, Sterling Clark McDaniel and Marshal Jarrel McDaniel of Houston, Kendall Anne Jackson of Lufkin; and numerous nieces and nephews. She also survived by her brothers, Jerome McAllister and his wife Martha of Dallas, James McAllister and his wife Dorothy of Rowlett; and her sister, Mary Wallis of Henderson, Colorado.
Anne graduated from Xavier Academy in Phoenix Arizona in 1950. After the family moved to Terrell, Texas, she met Jerry, a Staff Sargent in the United States Air Force. Faced with the choice of attending college or marriage, she chose the latter at the age of 18, marrying Jerry in Terrell on the 27th of September 1952, loving every minute of their life together thereafter.
Anne did receive a college degree. After completing Jerry’s enlistment in 1953, they moved to Austin, where Jerry was to complete his Bachelor’s degree, then obtained a Juris Doctor Degree at the University of Texas, as she worked at the University in the Auditing department. Upon graduation, she received a “PHT” (Putting Him Through) degree from UT Law School Dean, Page Keeton; an honor bestowed upon working wives of ex-servicemen who had contributed greatly to their husband’s success and happiness, which she continued to do the rest of their lives together.
Anne was a long-time member and volunteer of the Assistance League of Houston, working for many years with children, holding several offices and was co-chairman of the Major Fund Drive to raise funds to acquire the Leagues permanent quarters. She supported many local and national charities; St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital being her favorite activity - helping children.
Anne and Jerry found relaxation and fun from travel many times to London, Paris, Honolulu, Las Vegas and New York. They also attended most University of Texas home football games and attended each and every OU game in Dallas with friends and family from 1955 through 2008, except for one year when Anne was expecting Jerry Jr.
Anne was extraordinary as a child of her parents, extraordinary as a wife, an extraordinary mother to her children, extraordinary as a grandmother.
A Mass of Christian Burial is to be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 16th of June, at St. Michael Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Road in Houston, where the Rev. Leon Strieder, S.L.D., will serve as celebrant.
Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent Parish Life Center.
The family will then gather for a private Rite of Committal at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston.
As Anne had a true appreciation and love of red roses, the family welcomes with gratitude floral tributes of this kind in her honor.
“God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit now have an extraordinary daughter in their presence.”
