Anna Marie Barhorst (Lipps) of Houston, 89, left this world peacefully on Friday, April 29, 2022. She was born July 22, 1932 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Joseph Lawrence Lipps and Anna Marie Lipps (Meyer). She met her husband, Donald Charles Barhorst, on a blind date and after a wonderful courtship they married on May 21, 1955. She and her family moved to Houston in 1972 due to her husband’s job relocation. She considered herself a “naturalized” Texan and remained living in Houston for the rest of her life.
As a beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she is survived by her six children, Eileen Neucere (Evans), Mark Barhorst (Rhonda England), Donna Barhorst (King Hom), Alan Barhorst (Dina Post), Annette Stanislav (Vincent), and Warren Barhorst (Lisa Highsmith); her grandchildren, Clayton Barhorst (Amber Greaves), Spencer Barhorst, Reicher Barhorst, Janna Deal (Jordan), Ashley Barhorst, Elizabeth Neucere, Kelsey Hom, Erica Barhorst-Cates (William), Christopher Hom (Laura Fountain), Natalie Stanislav, Everett Neucere, Caitlyn Barhorst, Vanessa Stanislav, Shelby Barhorst, Rebecca Barhorst; and her great-grandchildren, Jay Barhorst, Drew Deal, Jeffrey Barhorst, Annie Deal, and Sadie Barhorst. Her sibling, Joann Groh (Joseph) also survives her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Barhorst, her father, Joseph Lipps, her mother, Anna Meyer Lipps, her siblings: Robert Lipps, Esther Lipps Wolff, Rita Lipps Lawson, Rosella Lipps Meyer, Alice Lipps Dallalio, Donald Lipps, and Cletus Lipps; brother-in laws: Clarence Fischesser, Harold Wolff, Albert Dallalio, Louis Meyer, Howard Lawson, sister-in-law Catherine Nickum and grandson Carl Barhorst.
On Thursday, May 5, 2022, a rosary will be said at 12:30 pm in the narthex of the Mary Chapel at Prince of Peace Catholic Community (POP), 19222 Tomball Parkway, Houston, TX 77070 followed by the Viewing from 12:30-2:30 pm in the narthex with refreshments available in the POP Community Center during the Viewing time. The funeral mass will begin at 3:00 pm in the Mary Chapel. After the funeral mass, all family and friends are invited to attend a reception celebrating Anna’s life at Senate Ave Brewing Co. 16000 Dillard Dr. Suite F, Jersey Village, TX 77040 at 5:00 pm. The burial will be Friday, May 6, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038.
