So sorry Lisa and your entire family,  Allen was a super guy in the Galleria Rotary Club. I knew him from the early 90’s and spoke to him on occasion as we were both in the insurance arena.   We lost track the past decade or so but we could pick right back off where we left off. My favorite question of all time was this: To Sen. Strom Thurmond-SC Senator, what is your stance on term limitations?  I think Strom was 90 at the time.  I fell off my chair and to this day, I remember it like yesterday. Goodbye good friend!

I met Allen at one of my camera club meetings about 15 years ago.  He gave a presentation on his Kilimanjaro climb.  I had always wanted to do that and was inspired by Allen's talk.  A friend and I eventually made the climb in 2011.  Allen was a great help to me in my preparations by sharing details of his experience and also his insights on gear for the trip.  He did the same when I was preparing for my Everest Base Camp trek a few years later.

I always enjoyed hearing about his numerous adventures and climbs.

Allen was our insurance agent for many years and did a great job for us at Stress Engineering Services.  After 9/11, the insurance underwriters looked at our website, and because we did fire testing, they were afraid and at first refused to renew our policies for the next year.  So Allen said “Let’s make a video  to show them how safe you are.”  We did that, he sent the videos to a number of underwriters and we would up with a better price than before 9/11.   We were very appreciative!   This was always Allen’s approach to be honest and straightforward.  We greatly appreciated him as a friend and an important helper for our company and will miss him.

Deb and I met Allen on a trekking adventure in Patagonia several years ago and were lucky to call him and Lisa our friends in Houston.  We were so inspired by Allen's spirit, zest for life, unbridled optimism his deep care for those around him.  We will miss him.

Allen's company provided the liability insurance for our company.   I had some friends who had summited Kilimanjaro in 2004.   He was in the office one day and found out about the trip I was putting together and jumped on it immediately.   You know the rest of the story through the years.

A great guy, so inspirational.

It was my pleasure to have some great adventures with Allen through the years.   He joined my group to do his first big mountain at Kilimanjaro in 2006.  Later he was part of our group that did multiple 14’ers in Colorado.   Two of them come to mind at the moment.   We did the double Shavano and  Tabeguache Peak together back in 2009. There were 4 ladies on the mountain ahead of us that day that Allen called the Gnarly Girls, a group of strong young adult females.  We could not convince them to leave the red flags on the mountain so we could find our way back!   Then in 2013, we did Mt. Columbia and published to the 14-ers website an article “Mistakes Were Made”.   We summited and did not get down until almost midnight. 

He also did the rim to rim hike of the Grand Canyon and was always a pleasure to have be with us on our weekly hikes.  Those that saw him training at Memorial Park were amazed to see him dragging that tire around Memorial Park with the weight on it. 

Always so positive and fun to be with.

Allen lights up any room he steps into.  He makes friends no matter where he goes!  He was an example of working through tough time without complaining and seeing the good in everyone!  He will be missed but left footprints for others to follow!  Susan Hite

I met Allen in 2016 not long  after he returned from an expedition to Antarctica. He had a light in his eyes and a quick wit like no one else. He was like the Pied Piper of Mountaineering. He graciously invited me along for the Haute Route in 2019. I will never forget how much fun  it was to be with him. He was a great friend  and an outstanding human being. 


A farewell to my friend Allen Wilson​. Allen and I became friends at Beery Junior and continued that friendship at Marion-Franklin. Allen is the best. We lost track after graduation but reconnected through Facebook and class reunions. Allen was a massive support when I was diagnosed with leukemia four years ago. Allen Dale Wilson​ and I have shared many of our ups and downs, and I miss him. I will valiantly try not to be sad, as that would disappoint Allen. I will see you again, my friend. Until then, Fair winds and following seas. To Allen's family, my heartfelt condolences.

It is with great sadness that our friend and classmate Allen, is no longer with us. He was a man of great generosity, love of family and full of adventure. I lived vicariously through him and his awesome travels. Intellectually, Allen was one of the smartest persons I have known. Personally, I had great admiration for Allen for all that he had accomplished in his lifetime. Allen is another bright star added to our night sky. He will be forever missed by his friends and the Class of '69.

With every conversation we shared, I was educated and inspired. Allen loved his family and accomplished so much during his life. He soared mountain tops, won awards and his travels inspired a movie. His H.S. 50th reunion committee learned about his “secret” large contribution to make sure everyone could take part in the night of memories and a special dinner.  Allen was truly a man that lived beyond self.
