Aline was born in Martin, Louisiana on Friday, June 29, 1923 to Ira and Lola Thomas, their first of seven children. After completing business school in Shreveport, Aline worked in Alexandria several years for the bus company. She moved to Houston to work for a fence company in 1946 before her marriage in 1951 to Donald O. Tatum. During their 56 years together they enjoyed family camping trips and, later, extensive worldwide travel. Aline was an excellent seamstress, needleworker, baker, gardener, and storyteller. She started working again at Memorial Drive Elementary in 1982 and retired in 1995. She will be greatly missed.
Aline is predeceased by her parents, husband, and three brothers, Leroy, Due Wayne, and Reggie. She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Atkinson and husband Pete, son, Roger Tatum, and wife Leslie, and son, Bruce Tatum; brother, Lamon Thomas; sisters, Winnie Rasmussen and Cynthia Chester; sister-in-law, Mary Cockroft; grandchildren, Jessica Tatum, Alissa Atkinson, and Robert Atkinson; great-grandchildren, Hailey, Michael, and James Atkinson and many other dear relatives.
Family and friends will gather at a visitation from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Wednesday, November 4th at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road in Houston, where services will be held in the chapel at 10:00am on Thursday, November 5th. Interment will follow in Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, also in Houston.
