On April 19, 2022, Alice Saenz Hernandez passed away peacefully at age 93 after a brief illness and hospital stay. After being diagnosed with cancer she wished to spend her remaining days in home hospice. Surrounded by her family and loved ones, she got her wings and went to dance with the angels and to be with her Lord and Savior!
She was born in Lockhart, Texas on September 20, 1928 to Becenta Valdez and Andres Saenz. Following the untimely death of her mother, Alice was raised by her maternal grandmother, Petra Valdez Moran. She considered her Aunt Cleo and Uncle Eddie as her siblings since they were closest to her in age. Alice’s greatest desire was to get married and have children of her own. She dedicated her life to being a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Alice’s greatest love was her family; she was the central figure in the life of her husband, and in the lives of her seven children; a beloved grandmother to 19 grandchildren and to 34 great grandchildren. Her favorite past-times included dancing, listening to mariachi music, working on jigsaw and word search puzzles, eating out and playing bingo. She touched the lives of so many people and will be long remembered for her beautiful smile, her cheerful demeanor, her gentle touch and her strong faith.
Alice was predeceased in death by her husband Jesse, her sons, Robert Joseph, Carl Andrew, her son-in-law Gregory Contreras and her brother Eddie Moran. She is survived by her sister, Cleo; her daughters Viola Ortiz (Octavio Jr.), Brenda Contreras, Belinda Abbott (Bob), Jessica Hernandez-Roop, and Jesse Hernandez (Debra).
