While in Korea, Woody’s Battalion experienced negative 40’ temperatures, and he survived a couple life-threatening situations including a near miss from a stray bullet.
Woody’s life changed in 1955 when he attended a going-away dinner party for a friend. Pat opened the door to welcome him into the party, and both their lives changed forever. It was a match made in Heaven and Woody and Pat built a wonderful life and family together.
He worked 33 years for Exxon Mobil in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Coral Gables Florida, Houston and New York City and was proud to become the Manager, Planning & Analysis, Development and Operations Department for Exxon Minerals Company.
Woody enjoyed yard work, playing tennis, studying history and travelling with their close-knit group of friends. Along with Pat, he was a lifetime LSU Tiger Football Fan and rarely missed a game. Woody was especially proud of his equally tall grandsons Daniel and Mathew. He liked dogs and was a loving Dog Dad to Eva, Spot and Sam, and an excellent Dog Grandfather to a variety of family pets.
Woody served as President of the Barkers Landing Subdivision Board, 1987-1990, and was a Deacon at Second Baptist Church, as well as a four-time Director of the Beacon Class between 1987 – 2019. Together with Pat, Dad was involved in Woody and Susan’s school activities, and patiently endured many swim meets and band concerts. They loved being the 1980 Trip Chairmen of the Westchester High School Marching Band trip to the Rose Bowl Parade,
In September of 2019, Woody and Pat moved to Eagle’s Trace Retirement Community and made many new friends, as well as renewing old friendships.
