He attended The Dalles High School where he excelled in both academic and sporting endeavors. He received a basketball scholarship at Oregon State University, but after his freshman year he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He became a First Lt. Navigator on a B17 bomber, flying 36 missions in the 8th Air Force, 390th. Bomb Group stationed in Framlingham, England. After returning from England he married Patricia Marie Boyle. They spent 65 wonderful years together. Al graduated from the University of Oregon in 1947. He began his accounting career as a CPA with T.B. Trotter Co. He received his law degree from the University of Houston while working full time as a T.B. Trotter partner. T.B. Trotter merged with Ernst and Ernst in 1969. He retired from then Ernst and Young in 1983. Al was a member and officer of Golfcrest Country Club where he spent many years enjoying golf, tennis, and his many friends. Later he became a member of the Plaza Club, Houston Racquet Club, Coronado Club, and Westlake Club. He was an early member of Memorial Drive Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Emma Cramer. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Pat, sister Ruth Cramer Williams of Roseburg Oregon, daughter Susan Cramer Rock and husband Peb, son Dr. Fredrick Michael Cramer, son William Owen Cramer and wife Christina, and grandchildren Christopher and wife Meredith, Patrick, Madison, Adaire, Matthew, and Mark.
Honorary Pallbearers are Mr. Kenneth T. Snyder, Mr. John G. Boyle, Jr., Mr. Charles Owen Boyle, Mr. Charles Baker, Mr. Christopher Owen Cramer and Mr. Patrick Owen Cramer.
Services will be held at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday February 1, 2011 at 10 in the morning at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. Officiated by Deacon James Barnett. Interment to Follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
