Albert "Al" Camille Romano

Albert was born on the 18th of July 1930, in Houston to Anthony John Romano, Sr. and Anna Cecile Romano (né Macaione). He spent his childhood growing up in the then predominantly Italian 5th Ward and attended St. Thomas High School where, despite his small stature, he was a star baseball and football player. He later played semi-pro baseball for the Houston Shamrocks. Albert was an avid golfer and bowler.

Albert served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954 where he achieved the rank of Sargent. Afterwards, he attended the University of Houston School of Optometry, and, upon graduating, entered the practice of optometry with his brother Gerry with whom he worked for fifty years before retiring in 2011. Albert and Gerry also worked alongside their father Tony and their brother Buck who ground lenses and fitted patients with frames. He was a long-time member of the 20 Club, an Italian American fraternal organization, where he had many close friends.

He is survived by his son, Paul Albert Romano; his brother, Gerald “Gerry” J. Romano and his wife Patricia “Pat”; his sister, Rose Ann Romano and her husband Carl “Sunny,” and brother, Roger “Rock” Romano; his sisters-in-law; Antoinette, Sylvia, and Susan Romano; and four stepchildren that he loved very much, Minette Feather and her husband Russell, Melanie Duryea, Mary Bell and her husband Wayne, and Clay John Eschete and his wife Annie. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jason Romano, Barry Romano, Amber Romano, Gabriella Romano, and Paul Albert Romano, Jr.

Albert was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Lillian “Mimi” Duplantis Romano; his brother, Anthony “Buck” John Romano, Jr.; his brothers, James “Jimmy” D. Romano and Joseph Louis Romano.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from ten until eleven o’clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 13th of January, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, where a funeral service will commence at eleven o’clock. There, memories and words of comfort and condolence may also be shared electronically with his family.

Interment will immediately follow, via escorted cortege, at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.
