With deep admiration and love, we celebrate the life of Albert Lawrence Boone, Sr. Albert gained his angel wings on Resurrection Sunday, March 31, 2024. Whether you called him AB, Boone, Baldy, Pops or Papa, one thing is for sure, he greeted you with a beaming smile and made sure you felt loved.
Albert was born on April 18, 1960 in Galveston, Texas to Rebecca Williams (formerly Boone) and Granison Boone. He thrived and completed his early childhood education in Galveston before moving to Houston. He was a proud graduate of Phillis Wheatley High School, class of 1978 and showed his Wildcat pride by attending every class reunion.
He began working for the Houston Independent School District (HISD) at the young age of 17 to support his college tuition. Albert remained with the district working in multiple departments before his retirement in January 2013. He worked part time for United Airlines and explored the world, visiting Japan, Paris, Cuba, Nigeria, Aruba and countless other countries.
The KFC Colonel introduced Albert to the love of his life, Donna. He and Donna met in high school while both working at KFC. They married on May 22, 1981 and share three beautiful children. It only took a few minutes in Albert’s presence to know his family was the greatest joy of his life. Everything he did was for them.
Albert loved three things - the Lord, his family, and the Houston Texans…and sometimes not in that order. He became a member of Worthington Missionary Baptist Church in 1980 where he served as a devoted trustee. Albert’s life scripture was Philippians 4:13 and his faith and trust in God directed his decisions. If you met Albert once, you were never a stranger again and were welcome to anything he had. Albert loved all people and that love was reciprocated.
Since the inaugural season, Albert has been a Houston Texans season ticket holder and loved tailgating in the Blue Lot with his Circle of Friends as much as watching the game. He followed his Texans, watching them play in many stadiums across the country. He even attended Super Bowl 51 with his son Albert Jr. here in Houston at NRG Stadium.
Albert’s home going service will take place at Inspire Church on Monday, April 8, 2024. The viewing will begin at 11 a.m., with the funeral service beginning at noon. The burial will take place at Brookside Funeral Home and Memorial Park at 2 p.m., followed by a repast.
Albert is preceded in death by his mother, Rebecca B. Williams, sister Michelle Pete, grandmothers Mary Edwards and Lovie Boone, and grandfathers Jake Edwards and Granison Boone Sr.
Albert is survived by his father Granison Boone Jr., his wife of 42 years, Donna, his son Albert Jr., and daughter in law Crystal, his daughter LaCoya; son Jordan; sister Johnetta Thomas; nephew David Thomas, wife Bonnie and great-niece Mia; sister-in-law Charlene Collins and husband Joe; brother-in-law Fred Hill and wife Joyce; and many nieces, nephews and friends. All surviving family members pale in comparison to the two that had him wrapped the tightest - his granddaughter Londyn whom he referred to as “Papa’s Baby”, and grandson Langston whom he referred to as “Afro.”
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Worthing Missionary Baptist Church Youth Department (mail check to 3005 Bostic Street, Houston 77093) or Inspire Kids Ministry here.
