Adela Torres De La Cruz of Houston Texas received her wings and was called up to the Lord at age 90 on March 25, 2022. Adela lived a long, beautiful, fulfilled life. A loving wife and a mother of 6, she was exceptionally kind and loving to all who knew her. Born in Weimar Texas in 1931 Adela and her husband met as children working as sharecroppers with their families. They married in 1947 and eventually made their way to Houston where they would raise their 6 children. Spending time as a housewife to raise 5 children, in 1967 she began working at a local tortilla factory in Houston. After several years she found work as a seamstress for a furniture warehouse. Her seamstress skills were enjoyed by not only her clients but her children and grandchildren as well. After many years of hard work and service Adela retired from her job as a custodian at Houston ISD where she touched the lives of many. After retirement, she spent her time enjoying walks in the park, attending church with her husband, gardening, visiting with family and friends, playing the slot machines at the casinos, and most of all, visiting with her grandchildren. Adela adored her family and will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband Emilio De La Cruz (92), her 6 children Maria (and husband Mike) Lacher, Juanita (and husband Roland) Escontrias, Guadalupe Avalos, Esperanza (and husband Faustino) Rodriguez, Emilio Jr De La Cruz, and Moises (and wife Kimberly) De La Cruz. 16 grandkids, Monica Ann Ibarra, Joe Angel Galindo, Donald Ray Worchecsick, Antoinette Minerva Galindo, Adrian Joseph Escontrias, Brian Joseph Escontrias, James Emilio Avalos, Josefina Adela Avalos, Vanessa Jane Ruiz, Janina Lupita Avalos, Jessica Betty Hernandez, Rene Adam Galindo, Isaiah Moises De La Cruz, Noah Desmond De La Cruz, and Antonio Noah Sanchez, 20 great grandchildren and 3great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by son in law Steve Avalos, grandchild Erik Joseph Escontrias, her parents, Jose Torres and Juanita Molina Torres, and 3 siblings Maria Rodriguez, Elvira Ramirez, and Frank Torres.
The celebration of Adela’s life will be held at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home and Cemetery at 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060 on April 7, 2022, with viewing beginning at 4pm and rosary at 7pm. On April 8, 2022, burial services will take place at 11am.
