Adam Edmond Petrosky passed away at a hospital in Cypress, Texas on Monday, January 31, 2022 at 86 years of age. The day he passed away was about 2 months after his beloved wife Ramona Jane Petrosky passed away on November 26, 2021. Adam entered into holy matrimony with his wife Ramona on November 26, 1959 (Thanksgiving Day) in Birmingham Alabama.
Adam was born on October 14, 1935 in Hempstead, Texas to his father Bruno Petrosky and his mother Nancy Dorcz Petrosky. Tragically, Adam’s mother Nancy passed away a few days after Adam’s birth. Adam was raised by his maternal grandparents Frank and Mary Dorcz.
Adam grew up on a farm in Hempstead with Frank and Mary Dorcz taking on the role of being Adam’s parents. He was raised in the same household as his uncles and aunts who took on the role of being his older brothers and sisters. Adam was particularly close with Tony Dorcz and they felt more like brothers rather than uncle and nephew. He went to public school in Hempstead before eventually moving to Houston. He was relieved to move to the big city because he always said it was tough growing up poor on a farm. In Houston, Adam attended Christ The King Catholic School. Adam began working at a very young age as a kid first helping with chores on the farm. Later in Houston he worked as a newspaper delivery boy, delivered telegrams for Western Union and even shined shoes. Adam enlisted in the military at the age that most kids are still in school and living with their parents. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1952 to 1955. Adam was so proud to serve his country and be a Marine. Even though it was only 3 years of an 86-year life span Adam cherished and fondly remembered his time in the Marines and talked about it his entire life. Adam met his future wife Ramona O’ Loughlin in Birmingham in 1957 and they married at The Cathedral of St. Paul Catholic Church in Birmingham on November 26, 1959. They lived for about two years in Birmingham and then moved to Houston, Texas. Adam spent the remainder of his life living in Houston with his wife Ramona. They had one son Frank Brendan Petrosky born in Houston. They moved to a house in Timbergrove Manor in 1971 when their son Frank was about 2 years old. They lived in this house for about 35 years until to 2006.
Adam and his wife Ramona were also self-employed for many years as the owner of three different restaurant establishments which were the Hickory Kart Barbecue (1965-1967), Adam’s Sirloin (1972-1977) and Frank’s Deli (1977 to 1989). Adam was also an excellent cook and enjoyed being in the kitchen at his restaurants and at home.
When not working Adam enjoyed eating out in restaurants and traveling with his wife Ramona. Adam loved going to Las Vegas with Ramona.
Adam and Ramona were members of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in the Garden Oaks area of Houston for many years and frequently attended mass with their son Frank.
Adam was Polish and very proud of it. The first language that Adam learned as a small child on the farm was Polish. He did not learn to speak English until he started school. He loved to both cook and eat Polish sausage.
In 2006 Adam and Ramona moved to Cypress, Texas to a home in Ravensway. Then they moved again in 2009 to a final home in Ravensway South.
Adam was a very proud and determined man who was always a hard worker. He held on to his independence living at home and taking care of his beloved wife Ramona in the final years of her life. Adam was devastated when Ramona passed but he continued to march forward because he had too much passion for life to give up that easy. However, it was his destiny to go on to eternal life and be reunited with the woman he loved. Adam is now with his dear Ramona.
Adam is preceded in death by his wife Ramona Petrosky, his father Bruno Petrosky, his mother Nancy Dorcz Petrosky, his grandfather Frank Dorcz, his grandmother Mary Dorcz and his half-brother Harry Petrosky. Adam is survived by his son Frank Petrosky of Cypress, Texas. Adam is also survived by his half-brother Clarence Petrosky of Pearland, Texas, his half-sister Angeline Petty of Nacogdoches, Texas, a nephew, a niece and many dear cousins.
Adam’s son Frank would like to give special thanks and acknowledgment to Shirley and Richard Kaucher, Jerry and Betty Dorcz and Leonard and Sharon Tomczak for all of their help in coordinating this funeral. Also, Frank would like to acknowledge and give great thanks to the gentlemen who have honored his father Adam by being pallbearers.
