Carolyn Jane Marks Robinson was born to the late Willie and Leola Marks on July 25, 1949. She accepted Christ at an early and was baptized at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church of Gibson, Louisiana, pastored by the late Reverend Ellis where she was an active member of the church her entire life. She served as a member of the Mt. Pilgrim Senior Choir.
She was educated in Terrebonne Parish at the historic Southdown High School where she graduated in 1967. She continued her studies at Grambling State University where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education in 1972. While matriculating at Grambling State University, she was initiated into the Delta Iota Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in the spring of 1971.
She met and later married Alfred Robinson on June 15, 1974. To this union, one child was born, Cicily Verrett. She was a devoted wife, mother, “grandmother,” sister, aunt, and friend. She encouraged spiritual knowledge and provided loving care to her family.
Carolyn had a distinguished career as an educator for more than 40 years. She loved the field of education and began teaching at Greenwood Middle School, before transferring to Terrebonne High School and then briefly to Houma Jr. High and finally to Ellender Memorial High School where she retired her career. After retirement, Carolyn became an Ellender Memorial High School substitute teacher. And, throughout her leisure time, she was a devout, active member and an honored Delta Dear of the Bayou Lafourche Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., a member of Grambling State University Alumni Association, the Retired Teachers Education Association, the National Association of University Women, LeCercle des Amies Social Club, a staunch volunteer for the American Cancer Society – Relay for Life, and an avid seamstress.
By the will of our Blessed Redeemer, Carolyn entered an eternal rest on October 19, 2024; she peacefully slipped to an eternal place of rest…Heaven…the home that she labored for so diligently and so dutifully. Her legacy will be remembered as an educator and dear friend to others and the boundless love she shared with her family.
