In 1948 she moved to Cleveland, Ohio and there she married Sammy Richuisa on July 23, 1949. They lived in Ohio until Sammy retired and then they moved the family to Hot Springs.
An authentic and caring storyteller, she shared lots of words, but never a bad one about anybody. Most everyone who knew her will remember her genuine goodness; they will not forget Gladys believed in hugs. Hugs were her hello and her goodbye.
Gladys’ Indiandale Manor Family, with whom she spent over 40 years, presented her with a plaque in 2013 for being their “longest term resident” and thanking Gladys for brightening their days with her “sweet personality and infectious smile.” They brightened hers, too. She was loved at West Shores, as well. Though her time there was shorter, Gladys made many dear friends of residents and staff.
Faith and hope were important to Gladys and she regularly attended early Mass at St. John’s Catholic Church. Often she was accompanied by her nephew, Lenny Hess, who was great company and even better help. After church they would visit over breakfast. Lenny continued to bring Gladys breakfast on Sundays when she became unable to attend Mass. It was a kindness and a blessing not soon forgotten.
Gladys’ is predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Sam; her son and daughter in law Anthony and Linda Richuisa; brothers Jesse, Earl, Mearl, and Ray “Mutt” McCollum; and sister Nataliee McCollum Hess. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Gae and Timmy Graves; granddaughters Katie (Sean) Ross and Chrystal (Josh) Davis; great grandson Haydn Graves; as well as, many loving friends and nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John’s Catholic Church on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 11am.
In lieu of flowers the family asks memorials be made in Gladys’ memory to the St. John’s building fund.
