Don was born April 26, 1937 to Dewey and Vernie Reeves in Columbia, MS. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Doris Barber and his son Mark Reeves. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Katie Embree Reeves, daughter Lynn (Greg)Smith; grandchildren Brittaney (Josh) Hammerle, Rachel (Chris) Arista, Hunter (Adriana) Smith, Amber (Johnny) Walker, Tommy (Katie) Reeves, Haley (Levi) Milner. By great grandchildren Anthonie and Miranda Walker, Skyler Milner, Lillie, Dominic and Charli Marie Reeves, Bailey and Adrian Hammerle, Jamie and Jessie Arista. By brother Ed (Liz) Reeves, brother-in-law Bernard (Ruby)Barber, sisters-in-law Kathie (Elwin) Pennington and Joy Bell, brothers-in-law Otis (Lori) Embree and Gordon (Anita) Embree. Don is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Don entered the Marine Corp in 1955. He served at various posts including Camp Lejeune, N.C., the President’s Band in Washington, D.C., Guantanamo Bay Cuba, Marine Corp Base Albany, GA, Marine Corp Base Twenty-nine Palms, CA, Okinawa and Viet Nam. He served his country honorably and well. Following two tours in View Nam, Don left the Corp to enter the ministry where he served in two churches in California before becoming Chaplain at Riverside Community Hospital, Riverside, CA. Following the move to Hot Springs, AR in 2001 he served as Chaplain for the Lake Hamilton Fire Department, National Park Medical Center and on-call Chaplain for St. Vincent.
Don was a member of Hot Springs Baptist Church since 2001 where he served as a deacon and was a member of the Ed Burgess Connection Cass. He was instrumental in establishing Celebrate Recovery at Hot Springs Baptist and had a real heart for this ministry. He loved his RPM girls and they loved him.
A memorial service with be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 28 at Hot Springs Baptist Church, preceded by an opportunity to greet the family at 10:00 a.m. He will be interred at the Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock at a later date. Donations may be made to the Recovery Point Ministry of Hot Springs, AR.
