Cheryl Smith Farr

Cheryl Smith Farr went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, December 17th, 2019, where she will be joining her parents, Jimmy A. and Mary Evelyn Smith and her many relatives and friends that went before her.

She was born on February 5 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. She attended Hot Springs High School, Memphis University, and C.D.A. school in Memphis, which is affiliated with the University of Tennessee Medical School.

She was a 1971 Debutant and lifetime member of First United Methodist Church, where she and her husband Jack volunteered at the Christian Life Center.

Cheryl worked for Dr. Ronald Splann as a C.D.A, then went to work for the Department of Human Services as a social worker for sixteen years. She left her career to pursue her dream of being a homeroom mother and team mother for her son Brett. She also taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.

She is survived by her husband, Jack Farr, who never missed going to a doctor appointment with her, never missed sitting an afternoon during chemotherapy treatments, never missed a single scan or radiation treatment (daily for six weeks). All the nurses and doctors noticed and commented how exceptionally committed he was. She is also survived by her son, Samuel Brett Williams of Sacramento, California, who spent several summers helping her, even at the expense of having to cancel his vacation and work plans to be with her. She is survived by her sister, Marie Varine Limandri, and brother-in-law, Salvatore Limandri who brought her anything she mentioned she wanted and Adam Farr.

She was blessed to have such wonderful family. She loved nothing more than being with her family and celebrating. She loved holidays and shopped all year for Christmas. Her life was a celebration. She wanted everything to be magical.

Cheryl knew life was short and she intended to enjoy it. She kept saying she wasn’t ready to leave the party.

When she went to be with her heavenly family, she was surrounded by the people and things she loved most: her family, close friends, her dog Maddie, her books, and her beloved iPad.

Cheryl and family would like to extend a special thanks to Rev. David Wilson who helped her during this difficult time. Pauline Muldoon was such a good friend, willing to help her wrap Christmas gifts in March, even though she really disliked wrapping (and especially in March). She said she could not have gone through this journey without Dr. Lynn Cleveland of Genesis, who literally held her hand the whole time and walked her to the chemo chair the first day. She was never too busy to answer Cheryl’s questions, and there were many. She gave Cheryl hope when she thought she had none. Cheryl said she could not have lasted this long without her. There are simply no words to express her gratitude. A special thanks to Cheryl’s daily prayer warrior, Stephanie Hart, keep fighting the good fight.

A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, December 23rd, 2019 at Hollywood Cemetery (yay, she finally made it to Hollywood!)

When you die, it doesn’t mean you lose to cancer. You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and in the manner in which you live.
