As an avid sportsman, he hunted, played football, and fished. Rick was a devoted member of the Cumberland Bassmaster's Fishing Club. His passion for the outdoors was evident in his pursuits and dedication to nature.
Professionally, Rick was a respected and valued member of the North Carolina Association of Electrical Municipal Systems (NCAMES) and was honored as a 2019 NCAMES Hall of Fame inductee. He dedicated his career to the Fayetteville Public Works Commission (PWC), from which he retired with honor.
He was a devoted husband of 46 years to his beloved wife, Julia Nunnery, and a cherished father to Ross, Raegin (partner Steven Ridgeway), Sara (husband Travis Esterby), Jamee (partner Bryan Jones), Matthew, Riki, and Robert. His legacy will live on through his adored grandchildren, Aubrey and Atlas Esterby, as well as a wide circle of family and friends.
Rick will be remembered for his loving nature, unwavering support, and zest for life. His passing was preceded by his parents, Maude (12/10/2019) and James "Tom" Thompson (11/23/2009).

A celebration of Rick's life will take place on Saturday, November 11, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 3308 N Main St, Hope Mills, North Carolina 28348.
