John was a good man who valued his family and friends. He retired from Dixie Yarns. He loved sports and among his favorite teams were the Washington Redskins and Duke. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and camper. He was a longtime member of Harvest Baptist Church.
John is preceded in death by his parents, John and Kate Council. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Parrish Council; his children, Virginia Quinn and her husband Bob, Deborah Mozingo and her husband Bill, Sandra Wright, Kenneth Thomas and his wife Christine, John Council Jr., and Christopher Council; 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; his sister Mary Louise Batten and her husband Sam; his nieces Cathy Patrick and her husband Tom, Sandra Britt Prottengeier; and his nephew Gary Britt.
A memorial service for John will be held Sunday, October 1, 2023 at 3:00 PM at Harvest Baptist Church, 5504 McPhail Street, Hope Mills, North Carolina 28348.
