Norman F.H. Ho 1931-2021 at the age of 89 years old passed away June 2nd, 2021. Born in Honolulu on June 5th, 1931, Norman was the oldest son of Henry and Alberta’s 5 children. He attended Saint Louis College (’50); received his BS in Pharmacy in 1955 at the University of Colorado, Boulder; and MS in Hospital Pharmacy at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1957. He worked at the University Hospital for 6 years in the Pharmacy Assay and Control Laboratory and manufactured pharmaceutical drugs. Norman made a career change in 1963, centered on physical chemistry and mathematics. He received his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry in 1968 at the University of Michigan and joined the Michigan Pharmaceutical faculty as an Assistant Professor and rose to Professor. In 1984 he was recruited by Pharmacia (an Upjohn Company) and became a Distinguished Research Scientist in their multidisciplinary drug delivery systems research unit. In addition, he was an Adjunct Professor at the University of Utah to teach graduate courses. Norman retired in 1998 to Hawaii.
Norman is survived by his wife Mary and celebrated their 60th anniversary on January 14th, 2021. He is survived by sons Kenneth, Gregory, and Jeffrey; daughter Barbara Williams; grandchildren Brandon Williams, Emma Williams, and Natalie Ho; brother Gerald; sisters Bonnie Hu and Lucia Keaulana. Norman is predeceased by his sister Charlene Goo. The family request in lieu of flowers that donations be made to your favorite charity.
