Malia was predeceased by her father,Richard and survived by her husband, John T. Oneha,
daughter, Pomaika’i,mother Sandra Young, brothers Kaipo Young (Dana), Kekoa Young, Kale
Young (Bridgette) and nine nieces and nephews.
Malia attended St. Patrick’s School, Sacred Hearts Academy and received her nursing degree
from the University of Portland. After a successful career in nursing in Portland and San
Francisco, she returned to Honolulu to care for her grandmother.
After working at Waimanalo Health Center, she worked the last 12 years at Queens Medical
Center as a Clinical Research Nurse finding a rewarding and impactful experience. She worked
on many important studies, but loved her relationships with the people she brought together the
best.
Malia was a passionate and competitive soccer player, earning MVP at the University of
Portland and NAIA All-District 2 Team one year. She most recently played for “Kulea”.
Malia loved her family and friends. She loved music. She radiated kindness, embraced love,
encouraged laughter and embodied a true Aloha Spirit. Selfless and devoted, she never turned
down the opportunity to help. A fierce Mother, her daughter Pomai brought light and joy like no
other. Malia made you feel special. She listened intently and purposely. You never doubted her
character or her heart. Her Spirit will be missed. May Malia be surrounded by Love!
A Celebration of Life for Malia will be held at Sacred Heart Academy, St. Margaret Mary
Chapel(3253 Waialae Ave.) on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 9am with a Mass following at
11am. Aloha attire. Flowers welcomed. Carpooling recommended. Overflow parking at St.
Patrick’s Church. Private Burial.
