Lt.COL. JOE MARVIN “PAPA JOE” JEFFERS, 91, of Mililani passed away peacefully in Honolulu. Born July 15, 1920 in Pineville, Missouri, he was the 2nd son of Rev. Marvin L. and Hillead Mahala (Ross) Jeffers. He was a pilot in the U.S. Air Force from 1941-1963, serving in World War II. He later worked in the Headquarters USERPAC at Ft. Shafter from 1964-1982. From 1982-1993, he was a part-time instructor in the Education Department at Waiawa Correctional Institution. Later he also tutored in a retired seniors volunteer group at Mililani Mauka Middle School from 2001-2003.
Joe is survived by his wife, Bertha; two sons, Allen F. and Arthur L. Jeffers; sister, Bobbie J. Ralph; brother, H.W. Jeffers, both of Oklahoma; grandchildren, Gregory A. Jeffers, Mark L. Jeffers, Karren M. Jeffers, Natali K. Jeffers, Nicole K. Jeffers; great-grandchildren, Desirae K. Jeffers, Luke T. Jeffers.
A Committal Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery, 45-349 Kamehameha Hwy., Kaneohe, Hawaii. Family requests no flowers. Casual attire is suggested.
