Jeanie (Luis) Riehn was born in Honolulu and grew up in an apartment close to the Holiday Mart department store. She was the only daughter with 2 brothers and 2 half-brothers. Jeanie attended Kaahumanu Elementary School until she moved to Makaha in the 6 th grade. She graduated from Waianae High School in June 1985 from Honolulu Community College with an Associate in Arts degree in December 1987; and from the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a Bachelor’s degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition in December 1990. Jeanie married Richard Riehn at University Avenue Baptist Church, March 23, 1991.
Jeanie worked in Food Production/Food Service management from 1987 to 2009. She has worked successfully at the University of Hawaii Food Science Department laboratory; Marriott Corporation – Manoa Gardens; Kahala Hilton – Dining Room/Banquet Office; State Hospital Dietary Department; and Hale Nani Rehab and Nursing Center. Jeanie was certified by the Dietary Managers Association as a Certified Dietary Manager/Certified Food Production Professional October 1997. Her last position was the Food Production Supervisor at Rehab Hospital of the Pacific from 1998 to 2009. She then became a full-time, stay-at-home mom to her daughter Rebecca and caregiver for her beloved mother Susan.
Jeanie accepted Jesus as her personal Lord and Savior in 1985, and since then has loved God and served Him through various ministries, as an active member of the Baptist Student Union, a college Summer missionary in Arizona, a volunteer in the church nursery and Bible class, and in other ways whenever help was needed. Jeanie was always content to work or serve in the background, she did not want to be the center of attention.
Jeanie loved to serve others and she did this by cooking wonderful meals. She was happiest when friends and family gathered, laughed, cried, and talked while eating her favorite dishes. Jeanie especially enjoyed Chinese Dim Sum! Spending time with her family and friends always brought a smile to her face.
Jeanie was diagnosed with colon cancer in the Spring of 2019. In the summer of 2020, she was diagnosed with growing metastatic colon cancer in her liver. After a very courageous and difficult treatment journey, Jeanie entered into eternity quietly and peacefully. She was surrounded in love by her family and friends at her home. Jeanie is survived by her husband Richard, daughter Rebecca, brothers Laymond Luis and Anthony Faith, and furbabies Duke and Bear. Jeanie is predeceased by her mother Susan Faith, brother Brian, and her infant daughter Rachael.
Her light will be greatly missed.
A celebration of Jeanie’s life will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Inspire Church Mililani.
Visitation is at 9:30 am; Service is at 10:30 am.
