A visitation for Hing Sheung will be held Friday, July 17, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Borthwick Mortuary Makai Chapel, at 1330 Maunakea Street, Honolulu, Hawaii 96817. Funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM. Burial to proceed at 2:00 PM at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery, 45-425 Kamehameha Hwy, Kaneohe, Hawaii 96744.

"In Memory of Uncle:

One day in 1978 dad told us uncle Hing-sheung in Hawaii will sponsor us to immigrate to the United States of America. I was both shocked and excited. I didn’t know much about America at the time. Father showed us a color photograph of uncle’s family in Hawaii. It was a beautiful picture. We know that uncle cares a lot about the future of his brothers and sisters and their children. He wanted to provide us the opportunity to live and thrive in the beautiful country. After we arrived in California, he wrote us often to encourage us to get education and work hard to achieve the American dream. We know that he worked hard to send all his kids to colleges and was extremely proud of their achievement. He set a great example for all of us to follow. Uncle was very patriotic and proud to be a Chinese American. He told us about his experience living in China and his freedom and opportunities in America. Last time when dad and I attended cousin Annie’s wedding in Hawaii, we missed our return flight. Cousin Eric collected us from the airport, and we spent one more day with uncle and auntie. Uncle reminded me how lucky our families are living in America. When we went to Home Depot to pick up some material for the house, he pointed to the tools and household material and said to me that in America you can do a lot of things and learn many skills. We can improve our lives by working hard. I’m so glad that I missed the flight and had a special day with uncle. Now I have been living in America raising my own family. I’m forever grateful for uncle to give us the opportunity to live in America. We miss uncle very much. Wish uncle rest in peace in heaven.
