Gilbert "Soyu" Kawamoto, age 74, of Honolulu, HI passed away peacefully on Wednesday September 13, 2017. He served in the Army in communications; stationed in Germany. A retired electronics repair man, his passion was surfing. You could find him daily at Diamond Head grabbing his board out of his shiny Black Toyota Scion and walking down the cliffside laughing with his surf buddies as they paddled out. He brought laughter to everyone he met. And his graceful wave riding style made surfing seem effortless.
He is preceded in death by both of his parents, Richard and Laura Kawamoto. He is survived by his brother Michael Kawamoto, his wife Frances Olani Kawamoto, his son Shonn Kawamoto, his daughter Malie Kawamoto, and his two grandsons Shane and Brandon Kawamoto.
A Celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, October 15th from 12:00pm to 3:00pm at the Elks Club Waikiki.
