Brian Anthony McCreadie Sr., unexpectedly passed away on December 09, 2023, at the age of 75, in California, surrounded at his side with endless love from his family.
Brian was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on October 6, 1948. Brian was raised in Kaimuki in his early years then moved to Kailua where he graduated from Kailua High School. He was an extremely proud Son of Hawaii. Brian was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and Great-grandfather. He honorably served in the United States Armed Forces and also worked as a Halawa High Security Corrections Officer. In Brian’s free time, he was an avid baseball coach helping hundreds of players within the State of Hawaii and California. During the football season, Brian was a die hard San Francisco 49er’s fan.
In 1967 Brian joined the United States Air Force and in 1969 he was deployed to serve his country in the Vietnam War. His duties as a Air Force Airman was a K9 Dog Handler with the K9 Unit and a specialist of the Security Forces, earning numerous recognition awards to include:
Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal
Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Service Star
Air Force Good Conduct Medal
The National Defense Service Medal
Post Vietnam War, Brian joined the WWII 442nd 100 Battalion. He lived by their motto “Go For Broke.” Out of loyalty to his fellow airmen, he was inspired to bond together with unity, bravery, loyalty, and valor in order to defend the United States of America. He also joined the Hawaiian Armed Service Police.
Brian’s greatest passion of all was baseball, as a coach, a fan and a parent. Affectionately known as (Coach McCreadie), Brian’s 45 year tenure is quite an impressive one. In California, he was a coach of the Orange Lutheran High School, Santa Ana Valley High School, Chadwick High School, and the nationally recognized Matter Dei High School baseball teams. In Hawaii, Brian was a well respected baseball coach with Kamehameha High School, Kailua High School, American legion Baseball, Palomino Baseball World Series Team 18 and under, Colt baseball 16 and under, and Collegiate Summer Teams. Brian served as Little League Baseball President, AAU Hawaii Director, American Legion State Commissioner, and the State-Western Regional World Series team manager.
His favorite baseball team was the LA Dodgers and his favorite player was Shohei (Shotime) Otani. In his early coaching years Brian coached his two sons Brian Jr. and Brant and his grandson’s Troy and Kaimana.
Brian is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Pamela A. McCreadie, his children: Brian A. McCreadie Jr.(Eleanor S.J. Hipolito-McCreadie), Brant T. McCreadie (Dina C. McCreadie), and Bridgette N. Ardo (Danny K. Ardo). He is adored by his 10 grandchildren: (Brian Jr.), Kaimana A. Hipolito-McCreadie (Maddie McCreadie), Makoa B. Hipolito-McCreadie, (Brant) Christian McCreadie, Thomas McCreadie, Brandi McCreadie, Kolt McCreadie, (Bridgette) Troy Logan L. Keliinui-McCreadie, Keisha-Breeanna K. Rosa (Keith), Kayla-Brittney K. Yim, Kammiee-Marie K. Ardo, Kristin Hutchinson ( Bryson) and Chasen Ardo.
Brian was the cherished Papa B by his three Great-grandchildren: Kaiden Emmanuel Jimenez-Yim, Tamia Chanel Keliinui-McCreadie, and Kyson Kūnuiākea Kaniho and survived by his loving and loyal Miniature Schnauzer “Hoku” who he cherished and adored.
Brian is also survived by his siblings: Paul Lewis, Arline Harris, Sharlene Pavao (Philip Pavao), and John Pagan III (Kehau Pagan), and his nieces and nephews Robert McCreadie, Joy Pharo (Steve Pharo), Darcy Holloway (Monty Holloway), Larry McCreadie (Jonetta McCreadie), and Susan Connely (Shannon Connely).
Brian was predeceased by his loving mother: Caroline Fernandez, father: Robert Nevin McCreadie, siblings: Clifford McCreadie, Jackie McCreadie, Ralph Berard, and William Harris Jr, and recently deceased mother-in-law, Edith O. Campos.
Funeral visitation in honor of Brian’s life will be held on January 16, 2024 at 10:00 am and mass at 11:00 am at St. Anthony’s Church, 148 Makawao St. Kailua, HI 96734, followed by his burial at Hawaii State Veteran’s Cemetery, 45-349 Kamehameha Hwy. Kaneohe, HI 96744.
