Paul Edward Mathis

Paul Edward Mathis, 90, of Homosassa, FL, passed away on Fri., March 29, 2019 at the Malcom Randall VAMC in Gainesville, FL. A native of New York, NY, he was born April 13, 1928 to Paul and Vera (Evans) Mathis, one of three children. Paul served his country honorably and proudly in the United States Coast Guard and the United States Navy from 1946 to 1951. Mr. Mathis was a retired carpenter foreman with Fiero Carpentry, Long Island, NY and moved to Homosassa in 1990 from Setauket, L.I., NY. Paul literally framed out his own home, along with his late wife Eleanor, in Sugarmill Woods upon moving to Homosassa. He was known as a loving father to all of his children, and enjoyed taking care of them from the time they were very young. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jacqueline Mathis and second wife, Eleanor E. Mathis and his siblings Robert Mathis and Vera Sebastiano. Paul is survived by his son Gary Mathis (Christy), Annapolis, MD; daughter Carol Kern (Carl), Spring Hill, FL; daughter Linda Watson, Melbourne, FL and stepdaughter Lorraine Grossi (Silvia), Grapevine, TX; grandchildren Jacqueline and Carl C. Kern (Megan); Patti Mathis Steinberg (Mark), Debbie Leonard (Michael), Brooke Marsden (Justin), Melanie Jerozal, Brian Jerozal (Morgan), Matthew Jerozal (Dana), and Gary and Joshua Wahnon and great grandchildren Brianna, Brandon, Kaitlyn, Reagan, Brady, Harrison, Shane, Luke, Laila, Tyler, Erin, Brendan, Jason and Ryan. Friends will be received on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. at Wilder Funeral Home, Homosassa, FL, where a Celebration of Life will take place on Wed., April 3, 2019 at 11:30 A.M.
