Jo-Ann Ruth Haase passed away peacefully on Friday, December 23, 2022, at the Vitas Hospice House in Lecanto, Florida following her battle with metastatic brain cancer, which she met with grace, courage, and dignity. Jo-Ann was a part of the Riverhaven community in Homosassa, Florida over the past 28 years. Her kind and generous nature was felt by all that knew her. Her sense of humor and laughter could brighten and bring comfort to family, friends, and anyone that had the opportunity to meet her.
Jo-Ann was born to Joseph and Ruth Agurkis on July 27, 1948 and grew up in North Massapequa, New York, where she attended and graduated from Plainedge High School. Jo-Ann is survived by her brother John Agurkis and his wife Ruby; her sister Lynn Costanzo and her husband Gary Costanzo; her stepchildren Edward Haase and Dawn Haase; nephews Alex Costanzo, Chris Costanzo and his wife Samantha, as well as their children Gianna and Carmine and her niece Anne Vensel and her husband Zac.
Jo-Ann had a career at the Long Island Railroad where she met her late husband Edward F. Haase. Jo-Ann always had a tremendous sense of adventure and loved to travel and experience new cultures and cuisines. She had the opportunity to travel to such places as Africa, France and India, among many others, but when asked what her favorite adventure was, she would respond that “walking on the Great Wall of China was one of her top ten favorites.”
Jo-Ann was surrounded by family and friends over the past several months. The Haase, Agurkis and Costanzo families would like to express our sincere appreciation for at the prayers, phone calls, visits and many other acts of kindness shown during the time of her illness.
