He was born May 12, 1922 in Pekin, Il. to Nicholas and Blanche Peugnet Petri. In 1948 he married Jessie Strope at Grace Methodist Church in Pekin Il. They were the proud parents of one daughter, Suellyn, she died in 2013 in Jacksonville, FL. Also preceding him in death were his parents, one sister, Bertha, and one brother Earnest.
He was a proud Marine, having enlisted the day after Pearl Harbor, Dec 8, 1941. He served aboard the USS Wichita and fought the enemy at Vella La Vella. He was honorably discharged in December 1945. He returned to service during the Korea conflict, training Marine troops at Camp Pendleton in California.
He returned from service and was a supervisor at Keystone Steel & Wire Co., retiring in 1984 after 38 years of service. In 1993 he and his wife moved to Florida.
He was a 60 year member of Pekin Lodge 29, Peoria Consistory and Mohamed Shrine, Peoria, Il. His memberships also included Southern Woods Golf Club, Sugarmill Woods Country club and St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in Crystal River, Florida.
Surviving is his wife Jessie and their only Grandchild Joshua Porter to whom he was always devoted, the two having a very special relationship. Also, Josh’s wife Sarah, whom he adored, and two Great Grandchildren, Kendall Leigh Porter and Joshua Philip Porter, Jr., living in Tallahassee, Florida.
A Requiem Mass of Resurrection will be held at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church 9870 W. Fort Island Trail, Crystal River, Fl. on Friday at 2pm.
Burial with full Military Honors will be held at Tallahassee National Cemetery on Monday
