Betty Jean Vanzin, 80, of Homosassa, FL, passed away on Fri., Feb. 24, 2023, surrounded by her family, at Oak Hill Hospital in Brooksville, FL. A native of Searcy, AR, Mrs. Vanzin was born May 11, 1942 to James (Albert) Fraser and Christine (Blount) Fraser, one of two children. Betty was a former medical researcher for Mt. Sinai Hospital of New York, NY and also enjoyed a second career as a long term care manager with sales responsibility at Quest Diagnostics. Mrs. Vanzin moved to Homosassa permanently in 2006 from Pittsburgh, PA and was a parishioner of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Homosassa for fourteen years followed by St. Benedict Catholic Church in Crystal River, FL for three years. For fourteen years Mrs. Vanzin was a faithful and devoted member of St. Vincent de Paul Society. Betty also enjoyed her time serving on the board of education at the Academy of Environmental Science in Crystal River, FL. for ten years. Betty was known as a voracious reader who also loved to go on cruises. She was a member of the Nine Hole Golfers at Sugarmill Woods Country Club, where she was a Club Champion. Betty is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Frank G. Vanzin of Homosassa; son Gary Vanzin (wife Christine) of Arvada, CO; daughters Melissa Wetherill of Naples, FL and Vanessa Bruskivage (husband Greg) of Golden, CO; brother Jim Fraser (wife Debbie) of Floral, AR; grandchildren Brian Vanzin of Arvada, CO and Trey and Sydney Wetherill of Naples, FL and her granddogs CoCo and Harley. Family and friends will be received at Wilder Funeral Home in Homosassa on Tues., March 7, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
