Bill was born March 26, 1946, in Alexander City, AL, to William F. Hamilton and Mabel McGowan Hamilton. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Montgomery, AL, before majoring in Business at Auburn University and later obtaining a MBA from the University of Alabama. At Auburn, he met the love of his life, Katharine “Kappy” Mills Hamilton, and the two later set roots for their family in Birmingham.
In Birmingham, Bill worked for Amsouth Bank before becoming Chief Financial Officer of Sherman Industries. Beyond his career achievements, he served weekly at Discovery Club, volunteered at United Way, and was a member of Mountain Brook Community Church. In all these roles, he mentored people of all ages with his integrity, character, and faithful heart. He was a man of his word and selflessly loved others and the Lord.
Though he loved hunting, cooking, photography, and traveling, Bill’s favorite hobby was spending time with his grandchildren. He loved being their “Boppy” and treasured the time he spent at their birthday parties, recitals, soccer games, family gatherings and summer vacations.
Bill is survived by two children, daughter Kappi Hamilton Naftel (Jim), of Birmingham, AL, and William “Bo” Hamilton, III, (Molly) of Fairhope, AL; Eight grandchildren, Ella, St. John, Kappy, Carter, and Boomer Naftel; Mills, Reynolds, and Wright Hamilton; and sister, Carol Hamilton Hunter (Thomas) of Meza, Arizona.
