Bill loved the outdoors playing with his sling-shot, hunting and fishing. He was a hard worker on the farm and planted his first crop by himself when he was 14 years old. He also enjoyed playing sports and was the quarterback for Carrrollton High School and played on the baseball team. He also served as senior class president. When he was a little older, he in played on the Pickens County semi-pro basball team. After high school he joined the United States Air Force and served in Korea. After the military, he went to the University of Alabama, where he received his degree and went to work for Dun and Bradstreet. Bill was an avid Alabama fan holding season tickets for 61 years. Bill met Joyce on a blind date and they managed to squeeze in marriage between basball and football season on June 20, 1959. After working for Dun and Bradstreet, for 9 years, Bill, change jobs and began working for Alabama Power Company until his retirement.
After retiring he found a great golf group. They enjoyed serveral years of golfing and became great friends and continued the friendship, after giving up golf. Bill and Joyce loved to travel, visiting all 50 states and 42 countries.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents: William Lawson Goodman, Sr. and Eloise Ferguson Goodman, his brother Charles Goodman; and his sisters Dorothy Williams and Anne Cary. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Joyce Christian Goodman, his brother Jerry Goodman (Betty) and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Bill will be held Monday, December 18, 2023 beginning at 10:00 AM with the funeral service following at 11:00 AM at Ridout's Valley Chapel, 1800 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, AL 35209.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Culverhouse College of Business, University of Alabama or the Dawson Foundation at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church.
