William "Butch" Aaron Cauthen Jr.

After a diligent battle with the frailties of his earthly body, William Aaron “Butch” Cauthen, Jr., on September 21, 2021, at the age of 74, took the form of his perfect heavenly body and assumed his place with our Heavenly Father. Butch was born in Montgomery, Alabama, May 10, 1947. Following high school at Robert E. Lee in Montgomery Butch attended Troy State University where he was a cheerleader and a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. Following college Butch moved to the Birmingham, Alabama area where he has enjoyed an active and fruitful life with his family. Butch was a dedicated member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church. Butch enjoyed social events and he carried a personality which was the only thing more vibrant than his wardrobe. He had an innate ability to, in the middle of a crowded room, make you feel as if you were the only person in that room. He was a sensational conversationalist, but an even better listener. Butch loved the game of golf. To his last days he played hard but never forgot the game is a gentleman’s game. A 50 year member of Green Valley CC now Hoover Country Club, Butch leaves friends who would say they were his family and memories that carry on through family and future generations. Butch loved his work and he was dedicated to his customers. Butch was passionate about his 39 years with Oldham Chemicals and thanks Millard and Ada Oldham, Marsha Oldham Reeves, Tommy Reeves and Stephanie Reeves. Aside from successful business and social endeavors, Butch’s greatest love was his family. Butch was a devoted and loving husband to his wife of 39 years, Carol Robertson Cauthen. Butch had three children Kimberley Yeager (Scott), John Cauthen (Michele), and Patrick Cauthen; five grandchildren Blaine Tharpe, Kathleen Tharpe, Brooks Yeager, Griffin Cauthen, Peyton Cauthen; Sister-in-law, Linda Robertson Erney (Bruce), niece Allison Erney Wade (Tom); nephew, Lin Erney (Andrea), three great nieces and four great nephews. Butch was predeceased by his Parents- William Aaron Cauthen, Sr. and Maybelle Watts Armstrong Cauthen; his brother- Dan E. Armstrong (Mary France), and his sister Barbara Armstrong Kern (Joe). A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 23 at Ridout’s Valley Chapel. Visitation will be from 3pm – 6pm with hors d’oeuvres, fellowship and funeral to follow. A graveside service will follow on Friday, September 24 in Montgomery, Alabama at Greenwood Cemetery at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Dawson Memorial Baptist Church Children’s Ministry.
