Sydney Rhodes Hauser, age 67, died September 11, 2012, at her home in Sarasota, Florida. Graveside services will be held in Oak Hill Cemetery in Birmingham, Alabama, on Saturday, September 22, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Tom Raines will officiate.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edna and Edgar Rhodes Hauser of Birmingham, Alabama; her sister-in-law, Ruth Howell Hauser of Panama City, Florida, and her dear friend, Opton Frank Smith of Sarasota, Florida.
Survivors include her two brothers, Michael Rhodes Hauser of Panama City, Florida, and Edgar R. (Nick) Hauser, Jr. (Vivian) of Livingston, Alabama; nieces Laura Hauser McCain (Allen), Birmingham, Alabama, Elyse Hauser Fishel (John), Panama City, Florida, Leigh Hauser Ozmint (Lee), Glencoe, Alabama, and Elizabeth Hauser Griggers, Gadsden, Alabama; nephew Edgar Rhodes Hauser, III, Birmingham, Alabama; and great nieces and nephews Kaylor McCain, Porter McCain, Brittany Fishel Trumbull (Jay), Howell Fishel, Thomas Ozmint, Pace Ozmint, Maddie Griggers and Sydney Griggers.
Sydney was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and she graduated from Shades Valley High School in 1963. She attended the University of West Alabama and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Alabama. She also graduated from the Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida.
She started drawing cats many years ago and was the illustrator of the popular best seller “Proverbial Cat Calendar”. She owned and managed a studio and retail shop, “The Tabby Cat” on St. Armands Circle in Sarasota, Florida, for many years.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to Old Miakka Methodist Church, 1620 Myakka Road, Sarasota, FL 34240.
