Stephanie Colpack Murdock of Vestavia Hills went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, the 26th of July 2022. She was 87. She died at her home with her family by her side. Stephanie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, friend and devout catholic.
Stephanie was preceded in death by her parents Stephen and Frances Colpack, her brothers Pat and Drew Colpack, father of her children Ed Naylor, husband of 25 years, Cecil Murdock, Jr. and her son Rick Naylor. She is survived by her sister Jerry (Eugene) Justice and brother Mickey Colpack. She is also survived by her children: Stephen (Alexandra) Naylor, Jennifer Freeman, Pat (Shannon) Naylor, Robyn (Tim) Stanhope, Kelly6 (David) Wilson, Michael (Laura) Naylor, Sally McSparen (Jeff Wood), Chris (Karen) Naylor, Bonnie (Vito) LoRe, Becky (Hunter) Hoffman and Victoria (Brad) Searcy, her grandchildren: Nicole and Aleksandra Naylor; Carter and John Michael Freeman; Maria Loren and Ryan Stanhope; Alexandria (Wes) Lower; Carter and Austin Wilson; Rickie Naylor Adam and Justin Taylor; Bailey McSparen; Lily and Sara Naylor; Amanda Fitzgerald; Emily and Micheal LoRe; Anna, Will and Marley Hoffman; and Harper Searcy; her great grandchildren: Cayden and Landon Taylor and Grayson Lower and by many adored nieces and nephews. She was loved by so many and she loved and prayed for us all.
Stephanie was born September 27, 1934 in Bessemer and was the oldest of five children. She attended St. Aloysius Sacred Heart Academy and was a graduate of John Carroll High School. She worked for US Steel in the 1950’s, owned Stephanie’s Sample Shop in Homewood (1970’s), SEC Sports Journal (1980’s), JC Bradford and Company (1990’s) and Karen’s Hallmark Shop (1990’s). She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church where she worked as the bookkeeper for 17 years. She was very active in her church as a member of the Birmingham Cursillo Movement where she had many responsibilities serving on many women’s cursillo weekend in a multiplicity positions. She was involved with Magnificent, a ministry to Catholic women, she was part of Our Lady of Peace Altar Sodality and loved attending bible study and learning about the Lord. She was a 4th grade PSR teacher and was a regular adorer in the Adoration Chapel.
A visitation for Stephanie will be at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 1728 Oxmoor Rd, Homewood, AL 35209 on Tuesday, the 2nd of August, 2022 beginning at ten o'clock in the morning with the funeral service following at eleven o'clock in the morning. Graveside services will be at Highland Memorial Gardens, 3115 18th Ave North, Bessemer, AL 35020 immediately following the service.
In lieu of usual remembrances, memorials in memory of Mrs. Murdock may be directed to the Catholic Centers of Concern or Our Lady of Sorrows School Foundation.
The family would like to thank her many sitters and nurses, especially Sheila Warren and Cathi Herring. Also to Carolyn and Jack Wright for their love and support through this difficult time.
