Sierra Delilia Webster, age 89, died November 20, 2024 in Birmingham, Alabama. At various times in her life she lived in Russellville, Alabama; Washington, DC; Atlanta, Georgia; and New Orleans, Louisiana. But always she managed to find her way back home to Birmingham, living in many lovely apartments on Highland Avenue.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Carl and Esther Webster; by three sisters: Virginia Lee, Billie Jean, and Barbara; and by her brother William. She is survived by her brothers: Carl Webster of Kettering, Ohio; Paul Webster of Annandale, Virginia; and Ronald Webster of Long Beach, California. She leaves behind many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends who were no less family.
Sierra enjoyed a long career as a legal secretary and retired from employment with the law firm of Sirote & Permutt.
Sierra may have seemed a paradox to some, except for those of us who know and love Southern women. She was at once a refined Southern Lady who wore white gloves and made Lady Baltimore cakes and was also a feisty, fiery Redhead who spoke out on modern politics, often comparing modern politicians unfavorably to Harry Truman, her favorite President.
She loved children, especially her nieces, nephews, and their children. Kind to anyone in need, she never sought credit for her kindness.
A fan of classic movies, she frequently drew parallels between contemporary events and personalities with iconic scenes and actors from those films, noting amazing similarities.
Sierra was an artist, an avid reader, a gifted writer, and a lover of good music and good coffee and good gin.
When she died, Sierra left the world poorer than it will ever know.
The Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood. Friends are cordially invited to visit with the family one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be made to a charity of choice or cause important to you in Sierra's honor.
