HEARN III, ROBERT LEE Of Vestavia Hills, Alabama passed away on March 2, 2013, surrounded by his family. Bob was born November 25, 1927 in Birmingham, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee Hearn, Jr. and Eva Mae Parnell Hearn. He graduated from Phillips High School, attended the University of Alabama and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Bob was the owner of Hearn Company, a real estate appraisal and consulting firm, from 1965 until his retirement in 2000. He received the MAI designation from the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers in 1970; was awarded the SRA designation in 1965; awarded the SRPA designation in 1972 and received the Senior Real Estate Analyst designation in 1974. He held numerous local, State and National positions including Past President of the Alabama Chapter #32 of AIREA, Past President of the Alabama Right of Way Association and National Vice-President of AIREA in 1987-1988. He was awarded the 1988 State of Alabama Appraiser of the Year by the Alabama Association of Realtors. Bob was a well respected appraiser, mentor and teacher to many on both a local and National level. He was an active member of Southminister Presbyterian Church and had served as Ruling Elder at both Southminister Church and Independent Presbyterian Church. He was also active in community affairs and was past President of Vestavia Kiwanis Club and the Poinsettia Men's Club. Bob was a very devoted and loving family man and is survived by his wife of 61 years , Marjorie Weatherford Hearn; his son Michael W. Hearn (Donna) of Hoover, Alabama; his daughter, Barbara H. Abbott (Walter) of Panama City, Florida; and brother Neal P. Hearn (Nanci) of Franklin, North Carolina. He is also survived by three grandchildren; Brandon M. Hearn of Alabaster, Alabama; Lauren M. Abbott and Matthew L. Abbott of Panama City, Florida. Memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Southminister Presbyterian Church, Vestavia Hills, with Dr. Joe Slane and Dr. Jerry Curry officiating. Visitation and fellowship will follow at the Church. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Southminister Presbyterian Church, 1124 Montgomery Highway, Birmingham, Alabama 35216.
