Robert Raymond Calloway

Robert Raymond "Ray" Calloway, age 85, of Birmingham, Alabama passed away on Thursday, the 7th of July 2022. Ray was born December 5, 1936 in Blue Mountain, Alabama to the late Ray A. and Jennie Mae Fitzgerald Calloway. He attended Alexandria High School where he was a First Team All State running back in 1954 and also played football and basketball for Alexandria. He went on to play for the Alabama Crimson Tide until an injury ended his athletic career. Ray went on to graduate from Jacksonville State University.

In 1975 Ray started the All American Insurance Agency. When he retired he then turned over the reins to his son Tim Calloway and the Agency remains a leader among independent insurance agencies 47 years later.

Ray was a loving husband, father and grandfather as well as a kind and generous friend to employees and clients. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jo Calloway and his daughters Cindy Davis Calloway and Angela Calloway. Ray is survived by his sons Tim Calloway and Mike Calloway (Pam) and by his daughter Pam Calloway Blalock and by numerous grandchildren.

A reception will be at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood on Thursday, the 14th of July 2022 beginning at two o'clock in the afternoon with the memorial service following at three o'clock in the afternoon.

In lieu of usual remembrances, the family suggest memorials in memory of Ray be made to the National Alzheimer's Association.
