Ralph Pearce Westfall, age 65, is survived by his wife of 41 years Beverly Penfield Westfall, son James Pearce Westfall (Shea) and granddaughter Audie Ruth Westfall and cousins Craig Clarke Boudreaux(Carol) and James Scott Boudreaux, sister in law Elizabeth Ryan and brother in law Willis Penfield (Pat) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Betty Pearce Swenson and his father Ralph Romans Westfall.
Pearce attended Mountain Brook schools until he went to Castle Heights Military Academy. He graduated with a finance degree from Auburn University and earned an MBA from Samford University. While at Auburn he played with the Auburn Rugby team and after graduation played with the Birmingham Vulcans Rugby team until he was 35 years of age. In 1983 he joined the Birmingham Jaycees where he became a very active member, not only with the Birmingham Jaycees, but the Alabama state Jaycees and served as a Commander of the Bama Brigade, the state honorary organization. Pearce was given the honor of a lifetime membership in the International Jaycee Senate by his peers and served as the Alabama state president. He enjoyed being an active member of the Irish Cultural Society and looked forward to their meetings.
Family was everything to Pearce. He was always a steady rock that could be depended upon if need be. This extended beyond his natural family to his chosen family of friends. He was fun to be around with his quick wit and humor combined with his intelligence and vast knowledge of many subjects although he didn’t hesitate to offer a quick correction if needed. This was especially evident with the many young people whose lives he touched. He was especially close to his granddaughter Audie Ruth whom he adored.
Pearce worked for many years for the Colonade Group of Birmingham, a sports production company and traveled around the country setting up venues for sporting events. He loved the challenge of making it work and was the “go to guy” to figure out how to make things work when they didn’t.
