Patty is also survived by her sister, Mary Gene Boulware (Thomas), her brother, Ehney Camp, III (Pat), and many wonderful nieces and nephews whom she cherished.
Patty was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church and later attended Canterbury United Methodist Church. She attended Mountain Brook Elementary School and Shades Valley High School and was a member of TKD sorority. She received an AA degree from Stephens College in Columbia, MO, and a BS degree from the University of Alabama, where she was a member of Tri Delta sorority. She loved her many friends from all of these places and continued to keep in touch with them throughout her life.
Family birthdays and holiday gatherings were the most important times for her. She loved parties and was a member of Little Club, Carousels, and Maskers Dance Clubs. She was a longtime member of the Old Elyton Chapter of DAR and The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America.
Patty was a golf enthusiast and played for many years at the Country Club of Birmingham, Mountain Brook Club, Shoal Creek, and many other clubs around the state. She served as President of the Women’s Alabama Golf Association as well as on the USGA Women’s Regional Affairs Committee for 10 years. She was a founding member of the Southeastern Women’s Amateur Team Championship and captained Alabama’s first team at that championship. She and Larry started the Riviera Beach and Golf Classic held each year in Gulf Shores, AL, to enjoy golfing and partying at the beach with friends.
Patty and Larry built a home in Cashiers, NC, and loved spending time at High Hampton with family and wonderful friends.
She and her husband were both involved in the many activities in which their children participated. Being a good Mom was the only job she ever wanted. Many times her friends said they would like to come back as one of Patty’s children.
Her 15 grandchildren were the love of her life. They all knew how much she loved each and every one of them. She and Larry enjoyed being an active part of all of their lives. She was a proud and enthusiastic supporter of each one of them and enjoyed being with them and their friends.
The family would also like to thank Patty’s friend and helper Courtney Meadows.
Memorials should be sent to The Kate Duncan Smith DAR School or the organization of your choice. The memorial service will take place on Tuesday, December 13, at 10:00 a.m. at Canterbury United Methodist Church, followed by a reception at Mountain Brook Club to celebrate Patty’s life of love and friendship.
