Born in Birmingham April 6, 1921 to Dr Cecil D Gaston and Nelle Cosby Gaston. Attended Ramsey High School, St Catherine’s High School of Richmond, VA, Duke University, and University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL; Graduate of University of Alabama. Also attended Parson’s School of Design in New York City.
She was active in the Crestline Elementary and Mountain Brook High School PTA. Member of Junior League, DAR, Zeta Tau Alpha, Birmingham Opera Guild and Independent Presbyterian Church where she served on Deaconess Board, Presbyterian Woman’s Board Service Guild, and as a Sunday school teacher.
She was predeceased in death by her husband of 63 years, Leonard C Skelton “Link”, daughter Margaret Bryars “Peggy”, Sister Joyce Heslip, and Son-in-law Wayne Bryars.
She is survived by her son Leonard C Skelton Jr “Len” (Ann) of Vestavia Hills and daughter Elizabeth Savely “Betsy” (Jimmy) of Zionville, North Carolina; grandchildren, Patricia Skelton, John Andrew Skelton, Matthew Skelton, Clay Savely, Emma Savely, Grant Stokes (Kayleigh), Jackie Stokes (Wes), Lance Bryars (Fallon); great-grandchildren Laurel and Locklyn Stokes and Elon Maddox.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 2 at 3:00 at Independent Presbyterian Church followed by visitation with the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Independent Presbyterian Church, Children’s Fresh Air Farm, Kirkwood, or Music Department or Charity of Choice. Funeral arrangements by Ridouts Valley Chapel in Homewood.
