Nancy Jane Supplee Yocum died unexpectedly on Wednesday afternoon, December 26, 2012, in Birmingham, Alabama, where she recently moved to be near her eldest daughter, Kathleen. Born on July 4, 1932, in Columbia, Pennsylvania to Marguerite Paules and Frank Evans Supplee, Nancy graduated from Shamokin High School [Pennsylvania] in 1950 and went on to attend the Pennsylvania State College [University], joining the Tri-Delta Sorority and studying journalism.
On a blind date in 1951, Nancy met Samuel Curtis Yocum II, a Penn State and Shamokin High School graduate. They married in September of 1952 and began a lifelong love affair. Living in Pittsburgh and raising a family, Nancy became active in the League of Women Voters and the Republican Party of Allegheny County, serving as a delegate of Castle Shannon Republican Party. She joined her family in active participation in the United Presbyterian Church of Castle Shannon.
In 1968, Curt became a partner in Africa Engineers, Inc., of Huntingdon, PA, and the family moved to Huntingdon. Nancy began working at Juniata College in a variety of administrative roles, enjoying the collegiate setting and working with students. Nancy was a long time member of First United Methodist Church, Lifetime Member in the Penn State Alumni Association, and a member of the Pennsylvania Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was an active member of the League of Women Voters, the Huntingdon County Republican Party and an organizing member of Republican Women of Huntingdon County.
An avid gardener with roses being her specialty, Nancy also loved dachshunds, books, and Penn State football. She was a devoted mother, wife, and a loving caregiver of her husband until his death in 2007. She enjoyed traveling with lifelong friends and family throughout the Eastern United States, Canada, Hawaii, England, France and Spain.
Nancy is survived by her children: Kathy and husband Jerry Tracey in Birmingham, Alabama; Debbie and husband Jim MacDonald in Southern Shores, North Carolina; and Jeffrey and wife Virginia in Columbia, Maryland. Her grandchildren are Stephen Matthew Tracey and wife Fegan in Pelham, AL, Michele Louise Tracey in Birmingham, and Samuel Curtis Yocum III and Benjamin Joseph Yocum in Columbia, MD. Her great-grandchildren are Meier and Elyssa Tracey in Pelham.
A memorial service will be held at South Highland Presbyterian Church, Birmingham, on Thursday, January 3rd at 11:00.
