Mary Elizabeth Robertson Ivey was born on January 9, 1923, in Mississippi. She married Eugene Winston Ivey on November 9, 1942, in Starkville, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her husband Gene, son Tom Walton Ivey and daughter Mary Patricia Keller of Silver Lakes, Kansas. Mary is survived by her son-in-law Mark Keller and granddaughters Ashley Rhodes (Thad), Lora Ivey (Richard) and grandson Matthew (Rebecca) She was also survived by four great grandchildren, Graham, Zoey, Sawyer and Brie along with numerous nieces and nephews.
For many years, Mary was an active member of Philadelphia Baptist Church in Cahaba Heights, where she served in the nursery and daycare center. Mary loved children, working outdoors, especially in her garden, and she was known by family and friends as a wonderful cook.
As a long-time resident of Cahaba Heights, Mary demonstrated her servant’s heart, especially toward senior adults, by serving faithfully at the local Senior Center and ministering to elderly residents in their homes, taking them meals, driving them to doctor appointments and spending time visiting and offering a ‘listening ear’ to her friends.
Mary was proud of her salvation and her love for her Lord. She often said, “The Lord is my Shepherd, and I do not want.” Please join family and friends as we celebrate Mary’s homecoming on Monday, November 6th at 11am at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Meals on Wheels Foundation.
