MARILYN JUNE BOWER, 73, departed this life on June 22, 2015. Marilyn was born in Birmingham, Alabama, but lived much of her life in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. She is predeceased by her parents, Jessie Royall and Pernia Jetty Lewis of Birmingham, and her husband, Larry Duane Bower, of Woolrich, Pennsylvania; a decorated Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Grady and Teresa Lambert, grandson Hunter Lambert, and granddaughter Aubrey Lambert, all of Groton, Massachusetts. She is also survived by her brother Jim Lewis of Bessemer, Alabama, sister Nancy Moore of Hoover, Alabama, and brother Roy Lewis of Indian Trail, North Carolina and an extended family that loved her very much.
Marilyn was a graduate of Birmingham Southern College with a Masters Degree and a career of more than 35 years as a high school English teacher; with over 20 of those years at Ft. Walton Beach High School. She also served as a part-time college professor of language studies at Troy State University.
Mimi, the name her grandchildren knew her by, was also passionate about many things during her life including classical literature, travel, boating, car shows, and quilting. She loved visiting the scenic wilderness of northern Pennsylvania surrounding Woolrich, the hometown of her husband Larry.
A celebration of Marilyn’s life will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at Ridout’s Valley Chapel, 1800 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, AL, 35209. Family and friends are welcome for visitation at 2:00 pm with a memorial service to follow at 3:00 pm. The family respectfully requests that donations in lieu of flowers be made to the American Heart Association.
