Lucille Pollock Vines, age 94, of Birmingham passed away Friday, June 13. Mrs. Vines worked at Loveman’s Department Store during WWII and was co-owner and manager of a small business after the war. She was a talented bowler, a playful roller skater and skate dancer, enjoyed luncheon and card groups, and was a member of the Hilltoppers group at Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church. She was an especially talented professional cutwork and needlework artist and pattern maker with many cutwork copyrights. She steadfastly supported her family in every way from unforgettable family gatherings to soccer games in the pouring rain. She not only loved her family, but she always found ways to enrich their lives. Her family loved her dearly loved her and will always benefit from her influence.
She was preceded in death by her husband Victor Lacey Vines who worked at Vulcan Materials, her sister Dudley Pollock Sorenson and her brother William Walton Pollock. She is survived by her daughter Helen Vines Laney (David), her grandson Chris Laney (Becky) whose children are Alex, Sarah and Katie, and grandson Michael Laney (Paula), whose child is Sam.
Visitation for Mrs. Vines will be on Wednesday, June 18 from 4:00-5:00 at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood with a chapel service at 5:00 and a reception to follow. Burial will take place at Elmwood Cemetery Thursday, June 19 at 9:00.
Mrs. Vines spent her last several years at Somerby at St. Vincent’s 119. Her family thanks the healthcare workers at St. Vincent’s Hospital and at Somerby, especially Executive Director Tim Hicks.
