Jerry Powell

POWELL, JERRY Jerry Powell, age 64, of Trussville died on July 26, 2011. Jerry was born in Anniston, Al and graduated from Anniston High School, class of 1964. He attended Anniston Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, earning his RN degree in 1967. Dedicated cardiac nurse, mentor, educator, leader and entrepreneur, Jerry retired in 2010 from the UAB Heart and Vascular Center and was member of South Highland Presbyterian Church. He loved to spend time with his family and also enjoyed music, cooking, golf and Auburn Football. He was preceded in death by his brother, Danny Powell. His survivors include his wife, Susan Baird Powell; sons, Mark Powell (Agape) and Michael Powell (Mary); daughters, Jenny Faulk (Andy), Lauren and Katie Powell; grandchildren Marika and Nikolai Powell, Taria Gillette (Chris), Katia Stewart (Kenny), Becca and Logan Faulk. Also survived by parents, Thomas and Ethel Powell and sister, Lynn Fridy (Tom). The family will receive friends, for a visitation and celebration of Jerry's life, on Friday, July 29, 2011 from 5:00 until 8:00 at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood. Funeral service will be Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 10:00, also at Ridout's Valley Chapel. Rev. Doug Powell will officiate. The family ask, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in Jerry's memory to : The Amelia Center, 1513 4th Ave S, Birmingham, Al 35233; Greater Birmingham Humane Society, 300 Snow Drive, Birmingham, Al 35209 or Saint Rose Academy, 1401 22nd St S, Birmingham, Al 35205.
